to guide past darkness -
veilleuse
(June 23rd, 2012)
nightlight -
the little one sleeps
with a smile
(tried another in context; June 27th, 2012.)
Veilleuse is a French word, meaning night light.
Shared with Haiku Heights & Haiku My Heart and Open Link Night..

I love this–just a little light can provide a vast amount of support
Yeah, indeed it can, Susan
Thanks.
- Leo.
Just a touch of light may be worth a wealth of sunlight! Beautiful!
It can be worth more than that, Gemma
Thank you.
- Leo.
Excellent dear Leo. Veilleuse in French is also the vigil lamp Orthodox Christians have in their icon corners. Thus your haiku for us has a very subtle meaning. Thank you!
I didn’t know of the vigil lamp, Claude
Thanks for sharing that part. Glad you liked my haiku. Cheers!
- Leo.
Image is brilliantly portrayed. Got the feel of it, cheers!
Thank you, Jaideep.
Imagine it from a child’s perspective. It’d make sense.
- Leo.
Little hope goes a long way
Absolutely, Kodjo. Thanks.
- Leo.
Beautiful! Just a little handful of light suffice to guide us out of the dark period. Thanks for sharing!
Just a little
Thank you, Clarice..

Hope is the lantern to carry through the path of darkness…lovely.
Thanks, Speck.

Hope does give us the extra strength to hold on to.
Oh.. yes of course, Asni
Hope does do that. Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the haiku.

J’espere que la veilleuse se n’est pas eteinte.
Je l’espère aussi, Cressida. Merci.

I liked the word – veilleuse! and the concept too! Beautifully expressed!
Quest of the unknown.
Thank you so very much, Pranita! It’s one of the few French words I actually know
- Leo.
Light is the architect of understanding.
We used to provide veilleuses for our guests when we ran a Chambres d’Hôtes: a tiny bulb which, when plugged into the appropriate socket, showed them the way to the loo.
LOL
I was imagining it from a child’s perspective more, Vivienne. The nightlight to give hope when the rest of the house turns dark.
- Leo.
3 lines, perfect for understanding, the more less words, the more it means! simply brilliant.
Exactly, DarkAngel. Thank you.
- Leo.
Thanks for the translation, I was just about to reach for the French dictionary! I like this very much… a light to lighten the darkness
Yeah, a light to lighten darkness. Such a nice way to put it, thank you Tigerbrite!

I like the metaphor in this for darkness and light. Well done. And I just learned a new French word. I love foreign languages, thanks
It’s one of the few French words I know of, Loredana. Glad you liked the haiku. Thank you.
- Leo.
I loved it …
Thanks Baishali
Cheers.

I think this is beautiful in the context of the christian belief someone had posted in the comments. This kind of multiple layers is what adds beauty to poems.
Thank you, TF. I’m glad you thought it beautiful.
I did think of other layers than the Christian belief.
- Leo.
delicious last word…and sometimes all it takes is a little bit of hope…
It goes a long way in supporting us, Brian.
Thanks!
- Leo.
A small light can be very effective, just as your words are.
It can be.
